First Aid in Education and Care (HLTAID012)
First Aid in Education and Care (HLTAID012) describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response to infants, children and adults. The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency. This course incorporates Provide first aid, anaphylaxis and asthma management. Refresher training is recommended every 3 years, anaphylaxis and asthma every 12 months
Key Learning Outcomes
- Introduction to First Aid in education and children’s services
- Resuscitation and airway emergencies
- Airway and breathing management
- Responding to choking, drowning, CPR, and defibrillation
- Trauma management, including infection control, bleeding, shock, head and spinal injuries, burns, fractures, and crush injuries
- Medical emergencies, including anaphylaxis, asthma, heart conditions, stroke, diabetes, and seizures
- Managing venomous bites, stings, and poisons

Course Entry Requirements for First Aid in Education and Care (HLTAID012)
To enroll, participants must:
- Wear enclosed footwear and suitable attire
- Bring a pen for note-taking
Course Duration and Delivery
- Duration: 1 day (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM)
- Location: Courses are open to the public and can be conducted on-site or at our Academy.
- Learners will engage in both theory and practical activities.
- Amenities: Morning tea, afternoon tea, coffee, and lunch are provided when the course is delivered at Thurgoona Training Academy (TTA).
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Pathways
