Initial Response Team (PUAFER009)

The Initial Response Team (PUAFER009) course exposes learners to a wide range of emergency situations. For example, it includes responding to wildfires, performing search and rescue in smoke-filled structures, and participating in live structural firefighting. Additionally, participants will work with essential equipment such as fire pumps, extinguishers, hoses, SCBA, DSUs, turnout clothing, and more. Furthermore, this training is often referred to as Emergency Response Teams (ERT) training. To maintain competency, refresher training is recommended every two years.

Course Entry Requirements for Initial Response Team (PUAFER009)

To enroll, participants must:

  • Wear safety boots and appropriate attire
  • Be clean-shaven as per Australian Standard AS/NZS1715
  • Wear a long-sleeve 100% cotton shirt
  • Bring a pen or pencil
  • Be physically fit, as the course is physically demanding
  • A change of clothes is recommended

Course Duration and Delivery

  • Duration: 3 days (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM)
  • Location: Courses are conducted frequently at our Academy.
  • Learners will engage in both theory and practical activities.
  • Amenities: Morning tea, afternoon tea, coffee, and lunch are provided for courses conducted at Thurgoona Training Academy (TTA).

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Pathways

RPL is not available for Initial Response Team (PUAFER009). Upon completion, learners may be eligible for further study, such as the PUA20622 Certificate II in Public Safety.
