COURSE OVERVIEW  

This unit’s competency applies to operators who have a First Aid role as part of their job. The ‘first aider’ is not expected to deal with complex casualties or incidents, but to provide an initial response where First Aid is required.

LEARNING OUTCOMES  
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic life support measures sufficient to provide an initial response where First Aid is required within the scope of their responsibilities and competencies
  • Knowledge and application of Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Bleeding control
  • Care of the unconscious
  • Company standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Legal responsibilities and duty of care
  • Dealing with confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the first aiders’ skills and limitations
  • WHS legislation and regulations and requirements
  • How to gain access to and interpret safety data sheets (SDSs)
  • First Aid management
  • State and Territory work health and safety requirements
  • Possible allergies
  • Location and nature of the workplace
  • Environmental conditions eg: electricity, biological risks, weather, motor vehicle accidents
  • Location of emergency service personnel
  • Use and availability of First Aid equipment and resources
  • Infection control
  • Establishing First Aid principles including: checking and minimising the site for danger and checking and maintaining the casualty’s airway, breathing and circulation
  • Request medical assistance using relevant communication media and equipment and accurately convey details of casualty’s condition
  • Prepare reports to supervisors and present all relevant facts according to company procedures

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS  

Safety Boots or Enclosed footwear, wear suitable attire.

DELIVERY AND DURATION  

Duration - One (1) Day

Time - 8.30am to 4.30pm

Provide Initial First Aid Response is open to the public and is also conducted upon request.

This course is conducted on request at the Academy and can be delivered on your site. Learners will receive training in both theory and practical activities. Morning / afternoon tea and lunch is provided when delivered at TTA. Please advise office of any dietary requirements

RPL/LEARNING PATHWAYS  

Students who complete the Unit Of Competency may be eligible for entry into further study such as: Certificate III in Process Manufacturing (MSA30107)
